George Orwell and the cost of becoming great
George Orwell is probably the most impactful writer I’ve come across. Such an amazing personality. The thing that he experienced or rather constantly seeked to experience is beyond imagination. He immersed himself fully into professions and ways of living which one will shudder just thinking about.
I haven’t read his biography, but I constantly try to put myself into his shoes and think from his perspective. I think he accepted and fully paid the cost of becoming a great writer.
You can’t write anything of substance about something which you have not experienced first hand. All the great artists create something drawn from the threads of their own lives.
